Manila - President Rodrigo Duterte will decide the fate of Luzon's strengthened community quarantine on Thursday, April 23, to give Filipinos enough time to prepare for possible changes, his former aide Senator Christopher "Bong" Goh said Tuesday.
On the same day, Duterte will meet with the country's pandemic task force, Goh said. There is a possibility that the strengthened quarantine in communities will be changed, he added.
"Ngayon po ay pinag-aaralang mabuti at ngayong Huwebes magdedesisyon ang ating Pangulo Ippupulong nyiya ulit 'yung ilang miyembro ng at ngayong," said a DZMM deputy.
(The issue is being studied now, and the president will make a decision this Thursday. He will meet again with some members of the inter-ministerial working group").
The president met with medical experts, including former secretaries of the Ministry of Health, on Monday to hear their views on the government's next step to stop the spread of COVID-19.
Malakanian said options were discussed, including easing the embargo in some areas, lifting it in areas where there are few cases of COVID-19, and maintaining the embargo in areas with a high number of cases.
More than 50 million people were forced to stay home because on March 17, Luzon was blocked to contain the spread of COVID-19.
The blockade, which was due to end on 12 April, was extended until 30 April, as the Government stated that it needed more time to prepare for the "new rule".
"This is not an easy decision, and we still have time for the president to make his decision," Cabinet Secretary Carlo Nograles, also a spokesman for the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) on COVID-19, said Tuesday.
"Basically, the president needs more time," Nograles said.
